CLS Hg Removal Systems are custom designed fixed beds engineered to include noble metal (nm) promoted variable cell zeolite (Vari Zeo possessing a selected distribution of cell sizes and shapes) with no unreacted silicon and no free sulfur. It is the most active and highest capacity material that we produce designed with N CAP technology resulting in Hg removal down to <0.1ppb.
The nm promoter provides rapid transport of Hg to the active metal sulfide complex sites leaving contaminants trapped within the Vari Zeo. This is the source of high activity of N CAP Vari Zeo resulting in a reduced mass transfer zone (mtz). End Of Run (EOR) of Hg guards is not due to Hg capacity exhaustion (max. capacity is 34.6 wt% Hg) but due to contamination.
On line side stream reactor comparative studies exhibited cycle lengths three times longer than any competitive metal sulfide absorbents. This is unmatched by conventional metal sulfide absorbents and even less by sulfur impregnated carbon.
N CAP technology ensures full encapsulation of Hg vapor via reaction with Fe/Ni/Cu sulfide complex. This results in a very stable mercury / metal sulfide or mercury sulfosalt. Zero free sulfur ensures no HgS content in spent absorbent.
N CAP Vari Zeo will achieve total encapsulation of Hg without desorbing Hg at any point in its cycle including during steaming proven to retain its structural integrity under a steam purge, greatly reducing the overall change out cost and time.

Mercury occurs naturally in natural gas and oil. It’s highly toxic representing to health and also the environment. Known to be a cause of catastrophic equipment failure through Liquid Metal Embrittlement (LME) or amalgam corrosion. Mercury removal is a necessity when natural gas is either processed or liquefied in a gas processing or LNG plant.
